Beauty in the mundane.
Emma Fortune is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer based in Vancouver, B.C. With a lifelong passion for making, she is dedicated to building a career grounded in creative expression. Emma began her professional journey in fashion design and has since transitioned to jewellery, exploring ways to merge the two disciplines.
Emma’s process is driven by observation and questioning. She asks what an object is, what it represents, and what it could become when removed from its original function. Inspiration often comes from objects that others might overlook or discard. Through these investigations, she explores themes of labour, materiality, and the overlooked beauty in the mundane.
Craftsmanship is central to Emma’s practice. She values the labour, time, and care embedded in making, and aims to produce work that is both conceptually rigorous and technically refined. By carefully constructing pieces that merge form and function, Emma aims to bridge conceptual thinking with a tactile, sensory experiences for the wearer.
Emma is a recent graduate of the Jewellery Art and Design Diploma program at Vancouver Community College. She is now pursuing her Bachelors of Fine Arts at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University majoring in Jewellery Art and Design.
